AlmaNova, “Moj Golube” (PDF).
Note From Almer About This Piece:
“Moj Golube has always been one of my absolute favorite sevdalinke (Bosnian love songs). It tells the story a young boy and girl who are in love but not able to be together due to their young age. In order to communicate, they employ a pigeon to carry notes to one another. At the end of the song they realize their youth and decide to wait until they are older to continue a relationship! And so Moj Golube is aptly translated to mean My Pigeon. Because of the original text’s subject matter, it should be played sweetly with naivety and innocence. The beautiful melodic line in the flute should never sound forced or strained and the grace notes and trills should not be accented. You should know that the word pigeon in Bosnian is also a term of endearment, so be sure to practice this very hard and melt your pigeon’s heart with a beautiful serenade!”.
